Welcome

Welcome to the Heart of Learning: St. Margaret's C of E Primary School

Nestled within the historic city of Durham, St. Margaret's C of E Primary School offers a vibrant and nurturing environment where a love of learning flourishes. Established in 1861, our two school buildings welcome over 420 pupils, creating a strong sense of community that celebrates each individual child’s unique talents.

Kindling a Passion for Lifelong Learning

At St. Margaret's, our rich and diverse curriculum ignites curiosity, exploration, and a lifelong thirst for knowledge. We believe that children thrive in an environment where they feel happy, challenged and secure. Our high academic and creative expectations are coupled with exceptional staff and resources, both within our classrooms and beyond. Children have a wealth of opportunities to develop talents in a wide range of areas including music, art, sport and STEM. We are exceptionally lucky to have beautiful grounds and the surrounding historic city of Durham, to provide a unique platform for our children’s learning and discovery.

Christ-like Values, Nurturing Strong Character

With Christian faith at the heart of everything we do, we strive to instil Christ-like values in our pupils. Our dedicated staff create a caring environment that fosters confidence, resilience, and a strong moral compass. We welcome children and families of all faiths and none, with a firm belief in the potential within each child, empowering them to "let their light shine" as our school vision states:

“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your father in heaven”, Matthew ch5 v16.

A Thriving Community

We are a large primary school with a warm and welcoming feel. Our strong sense of community extends beyond the classroom walls, fostering positive relationships between pupils, staff, and families.
